İrem GÖL -TDO- Wuhan’s city government revised the death toll upwards by 1,290, about 50%, bringing the total to 3,869. The officials said that the adjustment was carried out to include the people died at home and the missing cases as hospitals were struggling to cope in the beginning of the outbreak. With the latest revision, the total number of people who lost their lives due to COVID-19 in China increased to 4,632.
Many world leaders had alleged China for not being transparent about the real impacts of the virus in China. Chinese officials denied the accusations that the Chinese government tries to cover up the scale of the outbreak. Instead Chinese authorities said the revision was made because there had been delayed reports from medical institutions, while some patients died at home as hospitals struggled to cope.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Wuhan was also revised upwards by 325 which added up the total number to 50,333 the government said. Communist Party’s report stated: “The strict review and correction of the death toll means there is no room for deliberate concealment. Speculation that China falsifies the death toll from coronavirus is far from the truth. China is not a country where one can fabricate data in complete disregard the law.”
