Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The new type of coronavirus is expected to disappear in the spring as the weather warms, as respiratory viruses spread more often in the winter. But some experts disagree.
Bruno Lima of the International Infectious Diseases Research Center said that while some respiratory viruses have seasonal effects, they maintain their presence in tropical regions throughout the year. Bruno Lima, who said that some viruses make a mockery of the seasons, recalled that the A H1N1 virus seen in 2009 saw its peak in Spain, Germany and the UK during the summer months.
Alexandre Bleibtreu, an infectious disease expert at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, says that although the ideal air temperatures for respiratory viruses are between 0-7 degrees Celsius, Covid-19 will not disappear by spring. According to Bleibtreu, people's immune systems are not yet ready for a new virus, Covid-19, and the expectation that the outbreak will end as the weather warms is not based on concrete data. Similar viruses continue to spread in warm geographies and in the summer, Bleibtreu said, adding that there is no solution yet other than sanitary measures to combat the epidemic.
On the other hand, it appears that the virus is continuing to spread in the southern hemisphere, where it is currently experiencing the summer season. According to official data, there were 52 cases in Australia as of March 5, 2020, while more than 50 cases were detected in Kuwait and Bahrain, where air temperatures hover between 20-30 degrees.
