WILL COLOMBIA'S 52-YEAR-OLD CONFLICT WITH THE FARC COME TO AN END?
Today the Colombian government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) will sign a peace agreement to end the conflict. Since 1964 the ongoing war between Colombia' FARC rebels and government forces, will end with a peace agreement signed in the Colombian city of Cartagena.Hence four years of peace talks hosted by Cuba is now close to the end. In this sense President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos said that peace is a victory for all and he believed Colombian people will approve the peace agreement in a referendum held in Sunday. He also stated that the most important works will start after the agreement since the agreement would cause economic growth in Colombia and reconstruction the country.During more than fifty years war between the Colombian government and the FARC, over 220,000 people lost their lives so far, and almost 8 million people had been forced to leave their homes.Moreover it is requested from those who will attend the ceremony held in the city of Colombia, Cartagena to wear white as the symbol of peace. It is also reported that the President of Cuba Raul Castro will participate the ceremony.News Center
