Görkem ŞEKEROĞLU -TDO- World Health Organization (WHO) experts arrived in Wuhan on Thursday (14 January) to undertake an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus.
A team of 10 scientists, have to complete a two-week quarantine in Wuhan before starting their work. They are set to interview people from research institutes, hospitals and the seafood market linked to the initial outbreak in late 2019.
The visit comes as China reports its first fatality from Covid-19 in eight months.
Team leader Peter Ben Embarek told a news ageny that it could take a long time before they would have a full picture of what happened. He also added that he thought they wouldn’t have clear answers after this initial mission but they would have started the process.
Professor Dale Fisher, head of the WHO global outbreak and response unit, told a news agency that this was a scientific mission and it was not about blaming any country. Prof Fisher added that most scientists believed that the virus was a natural event.
