Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement that 20% of the population on the African continent is planned to be vaccinated against the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) by the end of the year.

WHO Immunization and Vaccines Development Program Regional Office for Africa Coordinator Richard Mihigo said in a statement that the Covid-19 vaccination process may be inadequate due to the low economic incomes of African countries.

Mihigo noted that they plan to receive 600 million doses of the vaccine by the end of this year and that in addition to the 270 million doses of vaccine purchased, 400 million doses of vaccines have been secured.

In the African continent, where 3.4 million cases have been seen so far, 60% of the 1.3 billion people are planned to be vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity.
