Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for a postponement of the implementation of supportive 3rd dose vaccines in order to address the injustice in the distribution of vaccines developed against the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the world and to provide vaccines to low-income countries.
Ghebreyesus stressed that vaccination with additional doses of vaccines against the pandemic should be temporarily suspended until the end of September.
"We call on all those with influence, Olympic athletes, investors, business people, religious leaders, families, and every person in communities to support our call to suspend additional doses of vaccines until at least the end of September," Ghebreyesus said.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told a news conference that who thought it was the "wrong choice" to call for the Covid-19 vaccine, and that the United States could both share vaccines and make third-dose vaccines if necessary.
"We believe we can do both, and we don't need to make that choice," Psaki said, stressing that the U.S. has enough vaccine stocks for everyone.
