İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- After Gulf War, US gifted de facto autonomy to Kurds as they ‘’helped’’ American forces to fight with opponents of military intervention and radical İslamic groups. Now it seems a similar game has been played in Northern Syria.
Last week, USA deployed forces to Manbij to prevent a probable Turkish attack to the land. Meanwhile, Russian-backed Syrian army created a corridor to Euphrates River and secured Aleppo’s water supply.
Unfortunately, Turkey ‘s just war on Syria, the Euphrates Shield Operation, tried to be hindered as United States provides open support for Kurdish militants on the field. However, negotiations between two allies, Turkey and USA, have not been over yet.
Senior Syrian Kurdish official, Aldar Xelil, told Reuters, in a phone-interview, that recent events showed Washington was telling Ankara: "Look, these are your limits". He added "It appears that the Americans have made up their minds".
It is called that USA behaves to Kurdish militants in such way as they could defeat Deash in Kobane, by American air support, two years ago and joined Raqqa operation, under Syrian Democratic Forces. Nevertheless, it is significant to remind that Turkey is a stronghold ally of USA as it joined each NATO operation with big numbers of soldiers and opened its land to their troops. Korean War is a great example of it. Additionally, don’t forget Turkish attempts to defeat Deash. Turkey cleaned hundreds of kilometers in Syria form Deash by Euphrates Shield Operation.
