Hassam Hameed-TDO-18.01.2018- United States to hold more than half of the payment of $125 million to UN relief agency which was suppose to be the first installment of total payment. US is emphasizing others to pay more. All this comes amid US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and as a repercussion Palestines decision to disengage with Israel.
US want to withhold the voluntary payment to UN Relief and Works Agency, urging others to contribute more. US to provide only $60 million to UNRWA, the rest withheld is “for future consideration” US official told to Reuters. "It is time other countries, some of them quite wealthy, step in and do their part to advance regional security and stability," the official added. This is also considered to be a pressure tactic on Palestine for disengaging with Israel.
President Donald Trump recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, which led Palestinians to denounce US role as neutral mediator. Jerusalem status is at the heart of the conflict and UN member states unanimously voted against the US declaration as ‘Null and void’.
