26/11/2016

After Turkey started operations in Syria’s Jarabulus named “Euphrates Shield” and Vice President of the United States Joe Biden visited Turkey, US State Department Spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau answered questions about the developments, saying she does not agree with the need to build new relations with Turkey since there is already a strong alliance between the two because of NATO.Since it is revealed by some Turkish officials that the reason “Euphrates Shield” campaign was launched is not only to fight against ISIS but also to prevent Kurdish forces from advancing to the western part of the Euphrates river, Trudeau answered the questions about the situation of PYD in the region and said: “Kurdish forces promised us that they will deliver the areas to the local people of the region after they clear it from ISIS”. Joe Biden made similar statements on his visit to Turkey, saying that Kurdish forces would lose the support they receive from the US if they try to advance to the western part of the Euphrates river. As Trudeau answered questions about Turkey’s request to handover Fethullah Gülen, she stated that the concerned offices were still examining the materials provided by Turkey on the issue, while adding that these kind of processes always take time.
