Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The United States was officially withdrawn from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), considered one of the most important treaties of the Cold War era.

Last February, US President Donald Trump stated that if Russia did not destroy its missiles and equipment, which would violate the agreement, they would be withdrawn completely from the treaty within 6 months, while Russia claimed that Trump's claims did not reflect the truth.

The INF Treaty covered the prohibition of all medium-range nuclear and conventional ballistic missiles with a range of five hundred to five thousand five hundred kilometers and capable of being launched from land.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who made relevant statements, said that with the end of the INF Treaty, the security of a part of Europe was lost.

The German Foreign Minister said in a written statement that he believes that deciding on disarmament and arms control rules must be achieved to prevent a new nuclear arms race.

Heiko Maas also stressed that a nuclear force like China should now be more obliged in the field of arms control, and that China has more weight in today's world than the Cold War.
