Serhat TUNAR -TDO- (15.02.2020) - A senior United States official has announced that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the United States and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The statement on Friday (yesterday) said the ceasefire deal, which will come into effect very soon, could result in the withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan.
The American official added that peace talks will begin to cover all of Afghanistan within 10 days following the 7-day agreement aimed at reducing the violence. The agreement covers the entire country, including Afghan government forces.
The official also said the Taliban had pledged to end suicide attacks as well as missile attacks. If the Taliban comply with the agreement, another deal to reduce violence is expected to follow, which would kick off peace talks involving all Afghan sides.
The Taliban side announced that the second agreement would be signed on February 29 and that dialogue between the parties in Afghanistan could begin on March 10.
