Serhat TUNAR -TDO- European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union at the beginning of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis due to the unilateral actions of the member states remained in the void, but the union has a chance to rediscover itself in this crisis, he said.
In a statement to the German News Agency (DPA), Von der Leyen responded to criticism directed at the European Union in the context of the policies implemented in relation to the Coronavirus outbreak and called for greater solidarity within the Union.
Rejecting criticism of keeping European Union borders open during the outbreak or the European Union Commission not doing enough to co-ordinate Europe's fight against the crisis, Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union Commission was working hard to mobilize border traffic for the transit of essential goods.
"Will the European Union fall apart because of this crisis?” asked, Leyen replied: "This is in our hands. In the coronavirus crisis, we initially felt empty, but then we quickly became in tune with the positive approach."
