Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The new president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, began her post with a month's delay, announcing that she would prioritise environmental issues.
Von der Leyen, who took up his post last Sunday, spoke on the phone with the leaders of the G7 and G20 countries, including Turkey.
The new president of the European Commission will attend the 25th Conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 25) held in Madrid, the capital of Spain. At the meeting, von der Leyen will make a speech on the environmental agreement for Europe.
Von der Leyen, who will head the European Commission for five years, will make his first overseas visit to Ethiopia on Friday, where the German president of the European Commission will meet with Abiy Ahmed, who won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize in that country.
The new commission will unveil its proposals on tackling climate change just before a summit of European Union leaders on December 11 in the European Parliament.
