İlknur Şebnem Öztemel TDO- France requested United Nation Security Council (UNSC) to send international observers to check the security of civilians and evacuations in Aleppo. Yesterday, UNSC met to debate about the request in a closed session. After three hours, it has been announced that the voting was delayed. As it has been revealed, the voting will be held in today, at 5:00 P.M.
It has been claimed that Russia threatened members of the council as he will veto the draft in case of a voting and present his own resolution draft. Its argued that members discussed to create a new draft that fulfil both Russian and French demands. At the end of the meeting, permanent representative of French to UN, François Delattre, said that they had a consent on a new draft which is based on the prior request. He mentioned that expectedly the draft would be accepted in the next meeting.
He said their draft has three main points as; secure evacuation of civilians, transfer of humanitarian aid to the city and protection of health campuses in the city. He added ‘’İf the draft resolution would be accepted, international observers would be settled in the city, Aleppo would be prevented to become a new Srebrenica’’
Hopefully, the resolution would be accepted today and international observers do their job properly. It is important to remind that there were international observers and even UN peacekeeping troops in Srebrenica too.
