Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The United Nations (UN) statement warned that the escalation of the conflict could result in catastrophic consequences after rising tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
On July 12th, the Armenian army attempted to attack Azerbaijani positions in the Tovuz province of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with artillery, and was withdrawn after the Azerbaijani army responded.
UN Secretary-General Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told in daily press briefing that they were following tensions between the two countries with 'deep concern'.
"There would be a great conflict, a catastrophe between the two countries," Dujarric said in a statement calling for the utmost restraint between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In the conflict, 12 soldiers, including 1 lieutenant and 1 major general, were killed and 4 wounded.
