İlknur Şebnem Öztemel -TDO- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave an interview to Reuters, in the World Economic Forum, in Davos. He called for a worldwide effort to counter the threat of Russian cyber warfare and urged USA to "be great again" by showing its leadership on global issues.
Poroshenko claimed that USA would back Kiev, reminding President-elect Donald Trump’s speeches as he would stick on to traditional obligations and nominees of his cabinet who promised to do so. He added "This gives us a lot more optimism for the future." Also he asserted that he had already planned a visit to meet with Trump in a few months.
Moreover, he highlighted the importance of NATO. He said "NATO, mainly this is not a question of money, it is a question of security. Russian aggression demonstrated again there is no other security system but NATO which is effective to stop the aggression’’.
Furthermore, on the issue of visa-free travel to EU, he said "This is a direct obligation of the EU....We are waiting for the very few moments or weeks for finishing the paperwork for these things and launching,"
Finally, he showed his deep trust on international law as he said; "I have no doubt. Crimea is a Ukrainian territory, of Ukrainian people. This was brutal violation of international law." At the beginning of this month Kiev sued Russia to highest court of UN and demanded to halt Russian support for pro-Moscow separatists, fighting in eastern Ukraine.
After mass demonstrations and political turmoil in Ukraine due to the sign of a historical political and trade agreement with the European Union, Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
