Selin ATAY-TDO- Joe Biden, the new president of the United States, will instruct about 9 million immigrants who are eligible for U.S. citizenship, White House officials said.
Signaling that former President Donald Trump's strict policies on immigrants will not be continued, Biden will also provide more convenience to those who want to come to the country legally as immigrants than to the Trump administration.
U.S President Joe Biden is set to sign three more executive orders targeting immigration reform, according to White House officials. These reforms includes the creation of a task force to begin a process to reunite families separated at the US-Mexico border by the federal government.
The president’s executive order on family reunification will seek to identify all minor children separated by their parents or legal guardians at the border under Donald Trump's policy. His “zero tolerance" policy of prosecuting migrants for “illegal entry” at the southern border resulted in hundreds of separated families and imprisoned children in 2018. More than 5,500 asylum-seeking families were separated under the reign of Donald Trump.
According to White House officials, Joe Biden will prioritize “the country's stronger, more reliable, and high-level, self-values policies as it moves toward implementing a more humane immigration and immigration policy.”
Joe Biden had stopped building a wall on the Mexican border as his first act in power. He had also taken steps to lift the ban on entry into the country from some Muslim countries.
