Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The United States has begun to gradually withdraw its troops stationed in Afghanistan.
The step is part of a peace deal signed between the United States administration and the Taliban in Doha on February 29.
Sonny Leggett, a Kabul-based American military spokesman, announced the move to reduce American forces stationed in Afghanistan to 8,600 under the Doha Agreement. As is known, the United States has about 13 thousand troops in Afghanistan. 8 thousand of these soldiers are interested in the training of Afghan security forces and 5 thousand are involved in counterterrorism operations.
The agreement requires the United States to reduce it to 8,600 within 135 days. As part of the agreement, by 2021, all United States troops in Afghanistan must be withdrawn from Afghan territory.
