Görkem ŞEKEROĞLU -TDO- Rockets slammed into the heavily fortified Green Zone where many embassies and international firms are located in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killing at least eight civilians and wounding dozens more on Saturday (21 November).
Tariq Arian, spokesman for the interior ministry, said “terrorists” fired the rockets from a small truck, adding an investigation was under way to find out how the vehicle accessed the city without being detected. He also said that according to initial information eight people were martyred and 31 others were wounded, noting the final toll would change.
Certain media sources reported that the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan claimed the attack. ISIS had carried out similar attacks in the past and claimed responsibility for recent assaults in Kabul. Taliban battling against a foreign-backed Kabul administration, denied any involvement in the attack.
The rocket attack sent alarm sirens blaring from embassy compounds and came two days before a major donor conference for Afghanistan in Geneva.
