Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The European Parliament discussed sanctions imposed by Turkey for drilling off the island of Cyprus. Informing parliamentarians about recent developments, European Union High Representative for Foreign Relations Federica Mogherini announced that European Union foreign ministers have agreed on a roadmap. Mogherini said the decision paved the way for punishing people and companies involved in drilling activities, and he said he expected European Union countries to propose companies and names.
The main goal of the European Union is to prevent international rule violations and to unify the island, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations said, trying to help the United Nations on the unification of Cyprus.
Speaking at the session in Brussels, several European parliaments demanded a complete cessation of membership talks with Turkey and a reconsideration of relations. He said the security of the European Union was under threat.
