Görkem ŞEKEROĞLU -TDO- The Tunisian Defence Ministry spokesman Mohammed Zekri said on Wednesday (3 February) that four Tunisian soldiers patrolling in the Moghila mountain region near the Algerian border were killed by an improvised explosive device.
The mountainous Moghila area, near the poor city of Kasserine, is home to an Islamist militant group that the Tunisian army has been fighting for years.
Certain foreign diplomats state that Tunisia faces a small but constant militant threat from jihadist cells hiding in remote mountain regions.
Last year militants attempted to attack the U.S. embassy in Tunis, killing a policeman at a security point wearing a suicide vest. Months later militants stabbed two security officers in a knife attack in the city of Sousse.
