Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture announced that the bird flu virus has been detected in the south of the country and 215 thousand chickens will be culled. "A highly pathogenic avian flu has been detected at a poultry farm in the town of Puiflijk," the ministry said in a statement."
The cull will also be carried out on a farm located within a 1-kilometer radius of the farm where bird flu was detected. Dutch poultry farmers were instructed to keep the birds inside to prevent transmission of the disease.
Similar measures are known to have been taken in Japan and France. A case of bird flu has been identified at a chicken farm in Kagawa Prefecture in western Japan. After that, it was decided to cull about 330 thousand chickens in the coop. In France, quarantines for poultry have been declared in 45 regions across the country in case of bird flu.
