Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- "China should withdraw 220 boats near the disputed reef in the South China Sea," Philippines Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in a statement.

Lorenzana said in a statement that the presence of Chinese boats was a "clear and provocative" act regarding the militarization of the region, adding that they were committed to defending their sovereignty rights.

On March 7, 220 Chinese boats docked near a disputed reef in the South China Sea, the National Task Force of the Western Philippine Sea said.

The atoll, which Manila's government calls Julian Felipe, is located 200 miles from the country's western city of Bataraza, and Manila says it is the region's exclusive economic zone.
