Selin ATAY-TDO-The protests in Lebanon that began against the government's tax policies and spread across the country and the demands of demonstrators got supported by the Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian.

Derian said in a written statement that "the fatwa institution supports and embraces the justified social demands and national slogans of citizens", and that they have followed the actions with great importance and understanding since they began.

Mufti Derian stated that Lebanon was going through a dangerous period and that this situation should be understood with a sense of seriousness, responsibility and trust. Derian called on authorities to take a positive view of the demands of people suffering from a bad economic situation.

The poor economy has raised the unemployment rate, reduced the level of income and caused a decline in social services, Mufti Derian said, stressing that all these factors have led to the growth of protests.

In addition to the deterioration of the financial situation in the country, Lebanon's economic development and reform projects of infrastructure disruptions, corruption has made the situation worse as you are not asked to account by factors including Ocean, recent decisions by the government, and has requested a sign of good faith wished to be the beginning of the reforms.

Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi described the anti-government protests in the country as a "historic popular uprising" and called for the people's intifada to embrace and protect it until it reaches its demands before the government.
