THE GEOPOLITICAL WORLD DESCRIBED IN BRZEZINSKI’S GRAND CHESSBOARD

In his article we will take up in detail Brzezinski’s Grand Chessboard Theory, which is foremost among the important geopolitical theories still valid today, in the context of US and Eurasian geopolitics.Following WWI, the USA was not an active geopolitical player, but rather preferred to be an active observer and retreated to its own continent. The USA’s geopolitical superiority became clearer after WWII. Following WWII, during the Cold War, the world transformed into a bi-polar system and the scene of implementation of geopolitical strategies became Eurasia. While the Eurasian bloc was generally dominated by the Soviet-Sino group, this group was not so effective in the periphery of Eurasia. After WWII, the USA had settled in the western and eastern ends of Eurasia. The USA had surrounded Eurasia in the west with the Berlin blockade and in the east with Korea and Japan.
