Serhat TUNAR -TDO- 5 police investigating the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni, who was killed near Cairo, which caused tension between Egypt and Italy, were not charged and the case was closed.

Egypt's Public Prosecutor, Hamada el Sawy, has announced that the case against Italian student Giulio Regeni, who was found dead near Cairo in 2016, cannot be pursued because the perpetrator is unknown.

His statement came three weeks after Italian prosecutors said they planned to charge four Egyptian security officials with torture and murder of Regeni.

Rome Public Prosecutor Michele Prestipino and prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco pointed to four high-ranking Egyptian officials and informed the Commission of Investigation of the Regeni murder that 3 of the 4 Egyptian officials were being investigated for kidnapping, and one for serious wounding and aggravated murder.
