Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Taliban announced that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has rejected an ceasefire offer on the occasion of Ramadan.
In his message to the Taliban, President Gani called for Muslims to accept a peace and ceasefire proposal on this holy month.
Taliban spokesman said in a statement that it was neither logical nor persuasive to seek a ceasefire while thousands of prisoners were in danger of the virus.
In a statement, the spokesman accused the government of putting barriers to the peace process.
Tensions between the Kabul government and the Taliban have been going on for weeks due to a deal signed between the United States and the Taliban, which envisages the release of 1,000 Afghan forces members against 5,000 Taliban prisoners but not accepted by Afghan officials.
