Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- In Syria, government forces entered the strategically important city of Maarat al-Numan in Idlib.
The Russian-backed regime of Bashar al-Assad has been bombing Idlib since November.
The committee, Tahrir al-Sham, and its allies have been clashing with regime forces around Marat al-Numan since December 19th.
The city of Maarat al-Numan is important because it is on the highway connecting the capital, Damascus and Aleppo.
Syrian state television broadcast footage of soldiers patrolling the city of Maarat al-Numan. Al-Ihbariye said government forces were advancing inside the city, 33 km south of the city of Idlib.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said via Whatsapp that government forces had completely taken control of Maarat al-Numan, the second largest city in Idlib.
