Selin ATAY-TDO- Switzerland froze the financial assets of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko after the violent end of presidential elections in Belarus.
15 Belarusian citizens, including Lukashenko and his son Viktor, were also banned from entering and traveling through Switzerland, the Swiss government said.
The individuals are alleged to be responsible for the use of violence and arbitrary arrests, according to the statement issued by government.
The Swiss government demanded the release of people who have been arbitrarily detained and the investigation of allegations of torture and ill-treatment by security forces. “Switzerland is deeply concerned by the ongoing tensions and is calling for dialogue between the Belarus government and civil society,” the government said in a written statement.
More than 300 people have been detained in Belarus, most recently for staging anti-government protests.
Current President Aleksandr Lukashenko won the country's election on August 9th, followed by protests alleging that "the elections were rigged". In those protests that continue every weekend in the country, protesters demand President Lukashenko to leave his post.
