Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who has taken refuge in Lithuania, told the European Parliament via video conference that Belarus is in the process of a peaceful revolution.
Addressing European parliamentarians, Belarusian opposition leader Tikhanovskaya said they now form a majority and are experiencing a peaceful process of revolution. Tikhanovskaya added that it was a democratic revolution, not a geopolitical one.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, as she is known, claimed to have won the elections held on 9 August. Huge protests began across the country after Aleksandr Lukashenko, who has been in power in Belarus for 26 years, declared that he had won the election with 80 per cent of the vote.
