STATUES OF CONFEDERATE GENERALS COME DOWN IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- In the United States state of Virginia, the monuments of two generals who served in the 1860 American Civil War were removed.

Speaking as the statues were being removed, Mayor Nikuyah Walker said he was "a small step closer to America's goal of supporting the fight against the sin of destroying black people for economic gain."

The statues, which he opposed to the abolition of racists, belong to generals who commanded the Confederate army of southern states of the United States, which opposed the abolition of slavery.
