İrem GÖL -TDO- In a phone call with the prime minister after being elected Labour leader, Starmer offered to work constructively with the prime minister and not provide “opposition for opposition’s sake.” Previously, Boris Johnson had published a letter urging leaders of opposition parties to work together with the government.
Sir Keir Starmer has vowed yesterday to lead Labour into a new era with confidence and hope after decisively winning the contest to succeed Jeremy Corbyn. The lawyer, who became an MP in 2015, has accepted the invitation to take part in cross-party talks with the prime minister and the government’s top scientific advisers next week, to “work together” on the crisis after being elected. Sir Keir said he had been elected at a moment like no other. He added, even though they will work constructively, they will continue to challenge where they see mistakes and call that out. He said: “Our purpose when we do that is the same as the government’s, to save lives and to protect our country.”
