İrem GÖL -TDO- Spain has announced another sombre record in the number of people killed by the coronavirus. It’s latest daily bulletin released on Tuesday announced 849 fatalities in the previous 24 hours, bringing a total of 8,129 deaths overall. Confirming the worst day so far since the start of the outbreak, the authorities said the number of new infections had risen over 9,000 in a day. The increase is more than 3,000 than the previous day. It brings the total number of confirmed cases to over 94,000. The government said that nearly 13,000 healthcare professionals in Spain have been confirmed to have Covid-19, the highest proportion of affected frontline workers in the world.
It is a serious blow in a country whose health services have been overwhelmed by the pandemic in many areas. Spain is in the third week of a national lockdown and more restrictions on movement were announced at the weekend. Although supplies have been arriving, medical associations still say doctors and nurses are working in unhealthy conditions due to a lack of protective equipment.
Around the world, more than 800,000 people have been confirmed to have the virus, and nearly 165,00 have recovered. More than 37,500 people have died.
