Hassam Hameed-TDO-30.01.2018- In Yemen’s southern city Aden, separatists have seized government buildings after vicious clashes with loyalists of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. Prime Minister claimed the attack to be a coup attempt by separatist which makes the already complicated situation of Yemen more complicated.
Aden acts as a temporary capital of Yemen since Houthi rebels took over Sanaa 3 years ago. Clashes continued till Monday where separatists tried to take control over military camps there. Prime Minister Ahmed Bin Dagher said attack as "coup... in Aden against legitimacy and the country's unity", after separatists took control over government buildings. Government called on its neighbors to intervene.
Separatists have long been demanding for the separation of south Yemen, but they had backed the government against the Houthis. Recently to keep their legitimacy alive, they have been accusing government for corruption and bigotry. Separatists gave government a deadline to dissolve PM’s cabinet which finished as of Sunday and fighting broke out. President Hadi has called for ceasefire, as this situation will fall in favor of the Houthis.
