Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Police who raided a church in Paris that had not followed quarantine rules and held mass illegally have issued warnings and fines to the pastor.
Paris, as it is known, is one of the regions most affected by the Coronavirus outbreak in the country. Mass worship in churches in Paris was also banned as part of quarantine measures taken on March 16.
But it emerged that the Catholic Church of Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet, located in central Paris, held a litany last Saturday evening due to the Easter Feast. French police, who confirmed the incident, quoted the pastor as having been warned and fined for failing to comply with quarantine rules, AFP news agency reported.
A person in the vicinity who heard the mass was being held at the church reported the incident to police, the report said. French local media quoted police sources as saying that when security guards arrived in front of the church, they saw that the church was closed tightly. About 40 people who were in the church were not charged.
