27/11/2016

Captured Ukrainian officer and ex-pilot Nadiya Savchenko finally returned to Ukraine on May 25 after nearly two years in Russian prison. Savchenko' return was a part of a prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia. And it is a huge deal in Ukraine, because her defiance in Russian captivity made her a national hero. Thanks to world leaders pressure on Moscow, Ukrainian President Poroshenko' plan, the efforts of Ukrainian politicians and activists, the worldwide #FreeSavchenko campaign, and the work of her sister Vira, Nadiya could finally come back home. Savchenko' release was done in secrecy and became public only after President Poroshenko’s jet, with the freed officer on board, landed in the Boryspil airport.
