Hassam Hameed-TDO-11.11.2017- Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry has urged its citizens to leave Lebanon at their earliest convenience, considering the current developments there. Hours later UAE and kuwait made a similar announcement. Whereas Bahrain issued it warning last Sunday, 5th November. French President made a surprise visit to KSA amid the escalating crisis between Lebanon and KSA.

These announcements came after the unexpected resignation of Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri in Riyadh. The resignation took Lebanon by surprise and has raised lots of question, answers to which Beirut is seeking. French President Emmanuel Macron paid a surprise visit to Saudi Arabia. He flew in after his debut trip to Middle East. This visit has come at a point when there is evident friction between KSA and Iran, as their pursued interests are conflicting in Yemen and Lebanon. Lebanon, a former French colony, has become the latest frontline. Macron discussed the recent developments with the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and emphasized the importance of stability in the region.

Analysts have reasoned the ambitions of Prince Salman to be the destabilizing factor of the region and so for his own country of which he is the de facto ruler. 201 high profile people are being held for questioning over the charges of embezzlement and corruption in KSA. Nepotism is also something which is being charged. Current developments in Lebanon and Yemen are also considered to be because of the power hunger of Prince Salman. There are numerous rumors surfacing that Mr. Hariri is being held as a hostage and is been used to isolate Iran and to justify launch of an attack against Hezbollah which is considered to be supporting KSA rivals in Syria, Yemen etc. Mr. Hariri had scheduled meeting the following Monday with IMF, WB and series of discussion over water quality improvement, not the actions of a Prime Minister who is about to depart.
