SAMSUNG CHAIRMAN LEE KUN-HEE DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Lee Kun-hee, chairman of South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, has died at the age of 78.

Lee Jae-yong, Lee Kun-hee's son and Samsung's de facto manager, told reporters that his father had been receiving treatment since 2014 for his illness after a heart attack and died today.

Lee Kun-Hee, who started working at tech giant Samsung in 1968 and took over as chairman of the board from his father, Lee Byung-chul, in 1987, made the company one of the most successful electronics firms in the world.

Under Lee's management, the company managed to make Fortune magazine's 2007 list of the world's 100 largest companies.
