Selin ATAY-TDO- Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, shared her comments about Western countries, who condemned Russia due to organized protest for Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny. Last week, Western countries criticized the Russian administration over demonstrations for the release of jailed Russian ctiric Alexey Navalny.
At a weekly press conference, the Spokeswomen for the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Western countries should focus on solving their own problems, and Western politicians copied statements from each other. "It is strange to hear such statements from these countries. Western countries do not hesitate to use not only batons, but also tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets against citizens protesting democratically," she said.
In her speech, Maria Zakharova mentioned about the raid on the US congressional building on January and yellow jackets movement for economic justice that began in France in October 2018 by arguing that Western countries adopted a "hypocritical" attitude. "Our Western partners, who are very concerned about democracy in Russia, need to focus on solving their own problems. A lot of problems have accumulated in your countries. You have to think about protecting your own citizens and democracy," she added.
In Russia, an unauthorized protest attended by tens of thousands for the release of jailed Russian critic Alexey Navalny was held on January 23. At demonstrations across the country, more than 3 thousand people were detained. Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the protests in support of Navalny were "illegal and unacceptable."
