Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Russia Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) announced the development of medicine to treat a new type of coronavirus.
FMBA introduced a new meflokin-based drug used against malaria to treat the new type of coronavirus, the agency said in a statement.
The statement said, “The Farmzashchita” Research and Production Center of Russia FMBA developed the treatment scheme of coronavirus infection on the basis of Meflokin drug used against malaria, taking into account the experiences of China and France.
FMBA President Veronika Skvortsova said in a statement, "The drug prevents the cytotic effect of coronavirus in cell cultures with high selectivity and prevents replication (copying), while Meflokin's immunosuppressive effect prevents activation of the inflammatory response caused by the virus. The addition of macrolide antibiotics and synthetic penicillin’s not only prevents the formation of a secondary bacterial-viral syndrome, but also increases the concentration of blood plasma and antiviral substances in the lungs. This will provide an effective treatment for patients with coronavirus infection with varying weight," she said.
