Selin ATAY-TDO- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iraqi President Berham Salih said they are ready to offer support for the start of dialogue between Ankara and Damascus.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Iraqi President Barham Saleh. It is noted that the parties discussed the development of the situation in northeast Syria and Turkish Armed Force’s Peace Spring Operation
“A common opinion was expressed on the need to achieve a durable and long-term stabilization of the situation on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the SAR through establishing a dialogue between Damascus and Ankara, as well as between the Syrian authorities and representatives of the Syrian Kurds,” the Foreign Ministry said.
During the talks, it was emphasized that Russia and Iraq were ready to facilitate contacts between Damascus and Ankara.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Ankara and Damascus should discuss the issue of Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria directly, calling Turkey’s cross-border operation a product of US policies.
“We have warned for many years about the extreme danger of the experiment that the Americans were staging there in an effort to pit the Kurds against Arab tribes,” Lavrov told journalists.
