Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Mercenaries of the Wagner Group, a Russia-based private military company thought to operate in various countries, including Ukraine, Syria, and Libya, are accused of committing "war crimes."
The International Federation for Human Rights, the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM), and the Russia-based NGO Memorial have filed criminal charges in Russia, alleging that Wagner group fighters committed "war crimes."
Human rights organizations say they have found evidence confirming that Wagner fighters tortured and beheaded a soldier who fled the Syrian army in 2017.
In Russia, where private military companies are prohibited, Wagner does not have a legal presence.
By contrast, there are thought to be more than 1,000 former military members or security experts working for Wagner.
