RIGHT-WING POPULIST PARTY PLEDGES TO FIGHT CORRUPTION WINS GENERAL ELECTION IN SLOVAKIA

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- In the parliamentary elections held in Slovakia, the party with the most votes was the opposition right-wing ordinary people and the independent persons Party (OLANO).

The OLANO Party, led by Igor Matovic, was the First party with 25.3 per cent of the vote, while the ruling Direction-Social Democratic party (SMER) finished second with 13.9 per cent, according to exit polls.

The election result is said to be a response to a corruption scandal involving prominent figures in the country, including ruling party leaders.

The family party managed to enter the 150-seat parliament with 7 per cent, the freedom and Solidarity Party (SAS) with 6 per cent, Andrej Kiska's party for the people with 5 per cent and the Christian Democrats party (KDH) with 5 per cent, exceeding the 5 per cent electoral threshold.
