Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad meet in Damascus, the Syrian capital.
In a statement about the two leaders ' meeting, Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov said Vladimir Putin had visited the command center of Russian troops in Damascus, where he met with Bashar al-Assad. It said the two leaders were presented with military reports on the situation in different parts of Syria.
Peskov continued: "Putin stated that in his meeting with Assad, significant progress was made towards preserving the territorial integrity of Syria. Putin also said life was back to normal on the streets of Damascus, visible to the naked eye."
Syria's state news agency, SANA, said the two leaders had met in Damascus, but did not share any details about the contents of the meeting.
The Russian President's visit to Syria for the second time since 2015 coincided with the killing of Iranian General Qassam Soleimani, a period of heightened tensions in the region.
