Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mustafa Akinci, answered questions in a live broadcast on a private television channel. Akinci announced that the presidential election, scheduled for October 11, could be held early if everything goes well in terms of Health.
The president of the TRNC stated that no new cases of coronavirus have been seen in his country for nearly 60 days, and said he would hold a meeting with the party leaders represented in the Republican Assembly on Friday and would bring up the election at an earlier date.
He added that the election could be held as early as possible without endangering public health, and that if all goes well in terms of Health, the election date could be pushed back sooner, before October is expected.
Mustafa Akinci continued his statements as follows: "If Parliament can produce a decision by the end of June first round on August 16, if 2. if there is going to be a tour it can also be done on August 23. I will talk to the party leaders about these concrete dates as well. If they adopt this approach, it would be very healthy to remove the election from the agenda of this society as soon as possible."
