Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Northern Cyprus Republican Assembly postponed the Presidential elections on April 26th until October 11th, and President Mustafa Akinci decided to continue his post until October 11th.
Coronavirus (Covid-19) due to the extraordinary assembly meeting was decided to postpone the elections until October 11.
In the vote in the Republican Assembly, it was decided to postpone the presidential elections with a majority of votes and to continue the mandate of President Mustafa Akinci for another 6 months.
Speaking in Parliament, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar said, "Elections could not be discussed in such an environment. Therefore, the postponement came up."
Deputy Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, who is working on the postponement of the elections, said, "No one is going to think about the presidential election. President Akinci, who will remain in office for another 6 months, will not take steps on Cyprus or other issues. There was also a consensus on this issue," he said.
