PRESIDENT TRUMP CONFIRMS THAT HE WILL NOT CONCEDE THE ELECTION - LEGAL BATTLE IS NOT OVER

16/11/2020

Robert HARNEIS -TDO- (FRANCE)- US President Donald Trump has tweeted Biden “only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. I concede NOTHING! We have a long way to go. This was a RIGGED ELECTION!"

Earlier Trump said that Biden had won because the vote was rigged. His words were taken by many US media outlets as Trump’s acknowledgement of the Democrat’s win.

Nevertheless, previously the Republican President said that "who knows" who would head the administration in the future.

On November 3, Americans voted to elect the President and Vice President of the United States. The November race for the White House was between Democratic contender Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris against sitting US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence of the Republican Party.

Despite the vote count still being underway, major US media outlets assert that the Democratic contender has presumptively won the presidential election. Most going as far as calling Biden the President elect. Both Fox News and Associated Press have put Biden over the top, beyond the needed 270 vote threshold. Trump is challenging the current outcome, claiming irregularities in the ballot processing in key swing states, and has filed lawsuits to fight his case in court.

In a boost to the Trump camp, Supreme Court Justice Alito has ordered that votes in the important state of Pennsylvania received after 8pm on November 3 must be held separately. Trump’s lawyers claim that the change in the state’s election rules, allowing postal votes to arrive after that date, was unconstitutional.

The President’s legal offensive is led by former New York mayor and noted prosecution lawyer, Rudi Giuliani.

In the 2000 presidential election, Republican George Bush Jr beat Democrat Al Gore with the Democrat only conceding defeat after 37 days and a Supreme Court judgement.
