In Brazil, which is struggling with one of the largest cases of corruption of our time, protestors and the people have split in two. The outcome of the case may lead to the impeachment of the president.Until a few years ago Brazil had been enjoying very good press: it was a rising star of the global stage, a new political actor on the world stage as the ‘B’ in BRICS and a new economic powerhouse. Today the story has turned completely around. The country is now dealing with a scandal that can topple the government. Over the last weeks, millions have taken to the streets to demand the charging and resignation of President Dilma Rousseff and former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, from the same party, for abuse of power. As a result of the “Operation Car Wash” (Operacion Lava Jato) which has been run over the past two years, prosecutors have revealed corruption allegations worth billions of dollars regarding the public company Petrobras.
