Serhat TUNAR - TDO - Ex-Peruvian President Alan Garcia was found injured after shooting himself during a police arrest. Earlier, Garcia was said to have committed suicide and failed. He was in critical condition. He went under an emergency surgery.
According to a source, on Wednesday, he shot himself in the neck shortly after police made an appearance at his home to arrest him on bribery charges.
After his attempt to kill himself, Peru’s Health Minister Zulema Tomas called his condition ‘’very critical’’ and ‘’very serious.’’
Garcia was the president of the Latin American state for two terms between 1985-1990 and 2006-2011. He was suspected of having bribery relations with the Brazilian company Odebrecht.
He was not the only Peruvian president to face such an accusation of bribery with Odebrecht. Ex- president Kaczynski was also accused of receiving $4.8 million from the construction and development company, Odebrecht.
