İrem UZUN -TDO- According to Bloomberg news agency, President Trump’s government was unsure whether the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un, was alive or dead after his heart surgery. The speculation was fueled after the 36-year-old leader missed public celebrations for the most important holiday in North Korea – the birthday of his grandfather, Kim Il Sung.
In addition, CNN, the U.S.-based television news network, later quoted unnamed U.S. officials who said they are “monitoring intelligence” that Kim is in “grave danger” after the surgery. Yet, the nature of the alleged intelligence was not clear.
A South Korean presidential spokesperson said Seoul has detected no unusual activity in North Korea and has “nothing to confirm” regarding the reports about Kim, who was absent from a key public celebration last week. According to the report of the Daily NK, a South Korea-based online publication with a network of contacts in North Korea, on Tuesday, Kim was in stable condition after a heart operation.
On the other hand, the Chinese Communist Party also denies that the North Korean leader is in a critical condition, according to a member of the diplomatic agency who also wanted to remain anonymous. While the Western countries are believed to have very few, if any, intelligence assets in North Korea, one of the most secretive in the world, there has not been comment made by North Korea.
